BULGING WALL

You have noticed a bulge in your brick wall.

A “bulging wall” means that a section of the wall has lost its structural stability. By postponing repairs, water continues to infiltrate, weakens the masonry, and creates increasing pressure on the lower bricks, which eventually begin to fail.

Water infiltration and moisture:
Water penetrates the wall, deteriorates the mortar, and causes metal ties (anchors) to rust.

Freeze–thaw cycles:
Repeated freezing and thawing pushes the masonry outward.

Aging and structural movement:
Mortar becomes brittle over time, and normal building movement releases the tension holding the bricks in place.
